Black Lipstick

An Exhibition of Original Works by Adelaide Damoah

Deemed "too sexually explicit" to be shown at the Bernie Grant Centre for more than one night, the collection consists of a series of oil paintings of Adelaide Damoah in various poses exploring the "dominant sexual side of herself", one of which shows the Essex resident with a whip in her mouth. There will be additional works never before seen by the public at the exhibition.

The exhibition preview will take place on Thursday, the 28^th of August 2008 from 6.30pm to 9.30pm, which will be the opening night and will run through to the 28^th September 2008, at The 24-7 ArtHouse in Clapham Common. Subsequent Thursdays will be Open Studio; all other days will be private view by appointment only.

The 24-7 ArtHouse is an exclusive studio near Clapham Common and offers privacy for viewing along with a quaint garden setting to enjoy a glass of wine.

After Party: The after party for Black Lipstick will be held at the White House in Clapham from 9pm - 3am. Free entry before 10pm, £5 thereafter.

The Artist Adelaide Damoah who is best known for her 2006 Exhibition; "Black Brits" will unveil her latest collection entitled "Black Lipstick" in August 2008. Adelaide Damoah is a self-trained artist. Following a career in the pharmaceutical industry, she began by painting a series of emotion filled abstract paintings that reflected changes in her personal life and culminated in the opening of her first solo show in 2006 -Black Brits.

With the Supermodels exhibition fast approaching, it seemed appropriate to forward the following article to you regarding the "black issue" of Italian Vogue magazine. Could it be that the unprecedented sales of this issue force the fashion industry to recognise that saying that black people do not sell is no longer an excuse for not using black models? What an interesting prospect, a swift shift in attitudes based on cold hard cash rather than a sluggish use of "token black girls" due to forced political correctness....hmmm....

For all of you that attended the Bernie Grant show and missed out on Black Lipstick due to it being removed because it was deemed "too sexually explicit", not to worry... Black lipstick will be on show again from 28th August at the 24/7 Art house in Clapham Common, with one or two new Black Lipstick paintings. Details to follow...

It has been a busy year for Adelaide Damoah. By the end of this year she will have completed 3 solo shows, a number of private commissions and be busy preparing for a show in Copenhagen in 2009! Phew!

The Artist Adelaide Damoah who is best known for her 2006 Exhibition; "Black Brits" will unveil her latest controversial collection entitled "Supermodels" in October 2008. The collection consists of a series of oil paintings in which Adelaide Damoah distorts our view of some major international supermodels and celebrity icons. Adelaide Damoah will attempt to change perceptions and spark debate using a striking 6ft wide piece of the Brazilian Supermodel Anna Carolina Reston as the centerpiece of the collection. Anna Carolina Reston was one of the models whose death in 2006 sparked a worldwide size zero debate, the piece is called "Ana" to represent both the first name of the young supermodel and to represent the popular phraseology often used by anorexics to refer to their condition.

Size zero is a UK size 4 (23 inch waist) which is the average size of an 8 year old girl, Adelaide Damoah will present new paintings of some of the most talked about size zero icons from a different side of the spectrum.

Adelaide Damoah through some of the pieces also examines other issues affecting the fashion industry including the lack of black models in the industry and the lack of disabled models in the industry. In a time when the industry is buzzing with such topics, Supermodels the exhibition will definitely encourage whole new debates and evoke thoughtful discussions on already controversial topics within the industry and outside of it.

The exhibition preview will take place on the 2nd October 2008 6 to 9pm, which will be the opening night and will run through to the 7th October 2008, at the Nolias Gallery in Southwark, South London. It will then move to the 24/7 art house on Clapham Common for 4 weeks.

The artist Adelaide Damoah will be exhibiting a selection of her striking pieces at an event in North London called U-NITE. The event which takes place at the famous Bernie Grant Art Centre, focuses on the theme of Unity and it will feature, dance, music, fashion and drama in a mixed variety showcase.

Adelaide Damoah who is best known for her 2006 exhibition "Black Brits" will be presenting 15 pieces, including 4 from the controversial Black Brits collection, a selection of abstract pieces from previous years, and she will be unveiling her latest collection which is cleverly named "Black Lipstick

This will be a chance to take a glimpse into the colourful mind of Adelaide Damoah. To look at Adelaide's paintings is like taking a journey into her subconscious mind, she has stated in the past that sometimes when she paints she does it without conscious thought, resulting in an unintentional masterpiece.

"I have discovered a way to get in touch with this side of my mind intentionally through meditation, when I meditate I feel like I am in touch with universal intelligence, which is infinite. Images come to me which I could never consciously think of"
